Biography
Rosalie Loveling was born in Nevele, Belgium, and was the older sister of Virginie Loveling, who was also an author. The two sisters wrote some of their books together. After their father, Herman Loveling, passed away, the family moved to Ghent. There, the sisters became part of groups of French-speaking, mostly anti-clerical educated people before returning to Nevele.
Rosalie began her writing career, inspired by Klaus Groth. She translated Groth’s work, "Trinia," into Dutch. With her sister, she wrote poetry that described life in a realistic way and had a romantic feeling. The sisters also published two books of essays about life in rural areas and in the city’s middle class.
Rosalie Loveling died on May 4, 1875, in Nevele.
