Abelardo Castillo was born on March 27, 1935, in San Pedro, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He died on May 2, 2017. He was a writer, novelist, essayist, and diarist. As a young man, he practiced amateur boxing. He was the editor of two literary magazines, El Escarabajo de Oro and El Ornitorrinco. He is highly respected in Latin American literature. In 2014, he received the Diamond Konex Award for being the best writer in Argentina over the previous decade.
