Josh Andrés Rivera was born on May 1, 1995. He is an American actor. He is best known for playing the role of Chino in Steven Spielberg's 2021 new version of West Side Story. He also played the role of Sejanus Plinth in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Additionally, he portrayed Aaron Hernandez in the FX American sports drama anthology series American Sports Story.
Early life
Rivera was born on May 1, 1995, to parents who were chemists from Puerto Rico living in North Carolina. His parents separated when he was one year old. After that, Rivera was raised by his mother in Connecticut and later in Boulder, Colorado. He attended Fairview High School, where he played football and participated in music and theater activities. Later, he enrolled at Ithaca College.
Career
Rivera performed in the first US tour of Hamilton. He became well-known for his role as Chino in the Steven Spielberg remake of West Side Story (2021) and for playing Sejanus Plinth in the movie The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023). Rivera portrayed Aaron Hernandez in the limited series American Sports Story (2024). In 2026, he made his Broadway debut as Rocky in The Rocky Horror Show, produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company and directed by Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton.
Personal life
In 2021, Rivera began a relationship with Rachel Zegler. They met on the movie set of West Side Story and acted together again in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The couple ended their relationship in 2024.
