In December 2014, the Koffler Centre of the Arts said the Awards would be paused for 2015. They planned to restart them in 2016 after making changes to improve the program. For 2015, a group of judges created the Canadian Jewish Literary Awards instead.

In February 2016, after one year of being paused, the Koffler Centre of the Arts restarted the awards as the Vine Awards for Canadian Jewish Literature.

The new awards have five categories, and each category offers a prize of $10,000.
