Kigo is a neighborhood located in the town of Ssabagabo in Uganda. The name Kigo also refers to Kigo Hill, which is part of the neighborhood.

Location

Kigo is in the south-eastern part of Ssabagabo Municipality, which is in Busiro County, Wakiso District, within Uganda's Buganda Region. To the west of Kigo are Lweeza and Mutungo. To the north-west is Ndejje-Lubugumu, and to the north is Kanaba Trading Centre. To the north-east are Kubbiri and Munyonyo, and to the east are Kaazi and Busaabala. To the south of Kigo is Lake Victoria. The road distance from Kampala's central business district to Kigo is about 30 kilometres (19 miles). The coordinates of Kigo are 0°12'25.0"N, 32°35'38.0"E (Latitude: 0.206944; Longitude: 32.593889).

Overview

Kigo is located in the fast-growing Ssabagabo Municipality, which is mostly wealthy and residential.

The Lake Victoria Serena Resort, one of two Serena Hotels properties in the country, has a large 9-hole golf course and is located in this neighborhood.

Mirembe Villas, a residential development with luxury apartments and condominiums, is located just to the east of the Serena Resort Golf Course.

The Kajjansi–Munyonyo extension of the Entebbe–Kampala Expressway runs through the neighborhood from west to east before turning northeasterly to end at Munyonyo, forming part of the Kampala Southern Bypass Highway.

Kigo Medium Security Prison is located on a landmass surrounded by water on three sides in the southeastern part of the neighborhood. Plans to move the prison to allow for commercial development have not been carried out as of January 2019.
