She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree focused on Translation from York University in Toronto, Canada. She also received a Master of Arts degree with a major in French and a minor in Spanish from Saint-Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. Her first novel, La Dette coloniale (The Colonial Debt), was published in 1995. The book examines the idea that many Africans believe a better life can be found in Europe. The title refers to a belief that gaining wealth or goods through any means, including illegal actions, is a valid right. This phrase has been used by leaders in the Congo. Her second book, La réponse (The Answer), is another novel that describes modern Congolese society.

Between 2007 and 2008, she taught French to students in grades I-III at Dulles High School in Sugar Land, Texas.
