James Bernard De Courcey Emtage was born on February 14, 1902, and passed away on August 12, 1995. He was a writer from Barbados who used the name J. B. Emtage when he wrote books. He was also a cricket player who played one first-class match for the Barbados cricket team during the 1921/22 season.

Emtage attended The Lodge School in Barbados and Magdalen College in Oxford. He married Laurence May Briggs.
