The Silesius Poetry Award (Polish: Wrocławska Nagroda Poetycka Silesius) is a yearly Polish literary prize given by the city of Wrocław in Lower Silesia.

History

The award was created in 2008 and is given out during the Port Literacki Wrocław Festival. It is named after a well-known Silesian Baroque poet, Angelus Silesius (1624–1677). The award was started by Jarosław Broda, who leads the Wroclaw Department of Culture, and is supported by the city of Wrocław. It is given in three categories: lifetime achievement, best debut, and book of the year. Winners receive money prizes of PLN 100,000 (about $25,000), PLN 50,000, and PLN 20,000, respectively. They also receive a statue designed by a Polish sculptor, Michał Staszczak.
