The Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize is a book award given to a book written in Spanish by a woman. It is hosted by the Guadalajara International Book Fair, which is located in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. In 2026, winners of the prize get $10,000.
History
This prize is named after Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a 17th-century Mexican writer. She is known as the first great Latin American poet and one of the most important figures in Spanish literature. Sor Juana faced challenges because she was a woman, a nun, an intellectual, and a writer who expressed ideas that some found controversial.
The prize has been awarded since 1993. It is presented annually at the Guadalajara International Book Fair, also called the Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara.
